Blackburn 2-4 Newcastle (AET)

Newcastle finally eliminated Blackburn despite a remarkable comeback from the hosts.The visitors cruised into an early two-goal lead thanks to Sean Longstaff’s first-minute strike and Callum Roberts’ sweet volley.However, Blackburn were level by half-time. Former Newcastle striker Adam Armstrong pulled the first-goal back on 33 minutes beforeDarragh Lenihan’s header got Blackburn level in first-half stoppage time.4

The second half at Ewood Park was a quieter affair and the teams were still locked at 2-2 after 90 minutes, forcing extra-time to be played.Joselu scored his first goal since August when he followed up after Rovers goalkeeper David Raya had spilled Fabian Schar’s drive.And Ayoze Perez made it 4-2 early in the second period when he cut in from the right and fired beyond Raya.

Stoke 2-3 Shrewsbury

League One Shrewsbury produced a superb late comeback to shock Stoke 3-2.Nathan Jones’ Championship side appeared to be cruising after Tyrese Campbell’s first-half brace.4

But James Bolton started the fightback with 19 minutes left before Fejiri Okenabirhie equalised from the penalty spot in the 77th minute.And Josh Laurent rounded off a remarkable turnaround when he struck the winner in the 81st minute as the Shrews booked a home tie with Premier League side Wolves in the fourth round.

Luton 0-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Atdhe Nuhiu’s strike set up a meeting with holders Chelsea at Stamford Bridge as Sheffield Wednesday avoided an upset against Luton.The forward struck from 10 yards just a minute after the interval to eliminate a spirited Luton side.4

The hosts came agonisingly close to levelling with 13 minutes to go, Collins diverting Sonny Bradley’s header on to the post with the goal gaping.Bradley’s header was then nodded off the line by Nuhiu as Luton’s cup dreams were ended for another season.
