A statement on Spurs’ official website said: “Jan Vertonghen has undergone further assessment today (Wednesday 1 May) after sustaining a head injury in last night’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Ajax. He also suffered a small cut to his nose that was bleeding heavily.“Tests today have been clear and testing will continue for the next few days.“Additionally, as is standard club policy with certain injuries, we shall also be seeking independent advice and Jan is due to see a neurologist, who specialises in elite athletes, tomorrow. The player has reported no ill-effects today.” Vertonghen tweeted: “Not the way I wanted the game to go last night. Feeling ok today. Thanks to both sets of fans for the positive messages.”Vertonghen was hurt as he and Alderweireld challenged Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana for a high ball.He was allowed to continue briefly after treatment, but was led to the dressing room in some distress, and Tottenham have moved to clarify what happened. The statement said: “Jan was immediately withdrawn as a result of the player informing medical staff that symptoms were developing suddenly and that he no longer felt stable standing up.”

The 23-year-old still looks a little shaky defensively but on the attack he gave Man City all sorts of trouble with his pace.In one move the talented star burst down the flank and beat Kyle Walker all ends up before Maxwell Cornet fluffed the resulting chance.Meanwhile, on another occasion, he was able to use his strength on the ball to hold off a challenge before laying on a superb pass to Memphis Depay in a first-half counter attack.Mendy in action against Paris Saint-Germain earlier this season.2

And Arsenal fans are excited about the possibility of them solving their long-term issues at left-back, as you can see from the Tweets below… Mendy has been linked with numerous top clubs, including Barcelona but currently he’s happy where he is.Honestly, I do not have a dream clubtoday, I’m at Olympique Lyonnais, I’m fine here, Mendy told Telefoot.I’m thinking about completing the season here with the club, with my team-mates and giving everything until the end of the year.If something happens, something happens, but I do not really think about it.
