Southampton are to appoint Ralph Hasenhuttl as their new manager, talkSPORT has been told.Hasenhuttl entered talks with Saints on Monday following the club’s decision to sack Mark Hughes.2

Despite Hughes guiding Southampton to a 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Saturday, the St Mary’s club remain in the Premier League relegation zone and club chiefs have decided to make a change after 14 matches of the league season.Southampton legend Kelvin Davis has been placed in caretaker charge of Saints until a new head coach is brought in, with the former goalkeeper taking charge of Wednesday evening’s visit to Tottenham.However, it is likely his reign as boss will last just the single game, with Hasenhuttl expected to be in place as manager before Saints are back in action on Saturday, against Cardiff. “This is going to be a done deal,” talkSPORT correspondent Alex Crook told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast. “Hasenhuttlwill be the new Southampton manager.“He won’t be in charge for the game against Tottenham tomorrow, but he will be in charge for the game against Cardiff on Saturday.“He’s not a household name in this country; he won the German second division title with Ingolstadt, and he spent two years in charge of RB Leipzig before leaving there in the summer.2

Hasenhuttl has built up his reputation and is regarded as a truly promising coach

“He’s got a reputation for playing attacking football, and for bringing through young players – both high on Saints’ list of criteria.“I think Southampton are hoping this left field appointment will pay off, much in the way that [Mauricio] Pochettino did, because, of course, we didn’t know much about him.”
