The spotlight on racism in the English game has intensified in recent days. Kick It Out campaigner Troy Townsend joined talkSPORT to argue the problem has got worse in the last six years, and Durham urges those in the media to think about their potential influence on hate-filled minds.“The racial agenda is clear and it’s sad that some who have huge and influential voices and big platforms in this country cannot see it,” the talkSPORT host said.“I’ve spoken about the racist agenda against Sterling in the past and it’s been dismissed – mainly by white men – and that’s what you would’ve seen since Saturday as well.“White men are trying to claim that the fan said “manc” instead of “black”. They’re trying to twist the truth for a reason – the first step for any racist is to deny that racism exists.“The hate for Sterling is clear, the undercurrent is racist and [Marcus] Rashford won’t get it because his career, so far, fits into the perceived pattern the racist white man thinks he can demand.”Durham added: “The words we use are important. There’s a negative narrative and the derogatory words towards Sterling in the past should’ve been thought through before being used.

“The words used by some in the media, sometimes, end up going through the wrong ears, into ill-educated heads and repeated through racist mouths.“I cannot wait for the day Sterling is made England captain. I hope it’s coming very soon. As an Englishman, I will feel so proud that someone who’s come through hardship, through racism and unspeakable hate is leading my country.”Chelsea have suspended four people from attending matches over their alleged behaviour towards Sterling during Saturday’s game.Chelsea have suspended four people regarding their alleged behaviour2
