Leicester have confirmed the appointment of Brendan Rodgers as their new manager.The former Celtic boss has signed a contract until June 2022 and replaces Claude Puel, who was sacked on Sunday following a string of bad results.

Rodgers will be at the King Power Stadium for Leicester’s Premier League match against Brighton on Tuesday night but his first game in his new job will be for their trip to Watford on Sunday.On his appointment, Rodgers said: “I’m delighted to be named manager of this fantastic football club.“At Leicester City the foundations are in place for us to grow and achieve many things over the years.“Hopefully with my experience and the talent of the players in the squad we can be successful together.“I’ll give my life to make the supporters proud of their club.”3

Celtic announced Rodgers’ replacement minutes later which sees former Hoops player and manager Neil Lennon take charge of the club for the second time in a deal lasting until the end of the season.Lennon won three league titles and two Scottish Cups in just over four years as Celtic manager after taking over from Tony Mowbray, initially on a temporary basis, in March 2010.He will be assisted at Celtic Park in his second spell in the hotseat by Damien Duff and John Kennedy.Rodgers enjoyed remarkable success at Celtic following his appointment in May 2016, winning back-to-back trebles of Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup.He won 69.8 per cent of the matches he was in charge of, losing on just 26 occasions from a possible 169.3

He returns to the country in which he has spent the majority of his coaching career, beginning as an academy coach for Reading having been forced to retire aged 20 due to a knee injury.He eventually joined Chelseas academy upon Jose Mourinhos appointment in 2004, and eventually progressed to the position of reserve team manager before leaving to become Watford manager in November 2008.A year later he returned to Reading as boss but left after just six months with the club only one place above the Championships bottom three, but found another opportunity in the second tier with Swansea.Appointed by the Swans in 2010, Rogers guided the Welsh club to promotion via the play-offs in his debut season, before they finished comfortably mid-table in the top flight the following campaign.Liverpool came calling that summer, and in his second season at Anfield Rodgers developed the Reds into serious title contenders as they finished second to Manchester City after a brilliant campaign spearheaded by the triumvirate of Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge.3

However, Liverpool finished sixth the following term and he was sacked less than two months into the 2015/16 season after a 1-1 draw in the Merseyside derby.He remained out the game until joining Celtic in summer 2016, but now returns to England with Leicester who won the Premier League in the same season Rodgers was sacked by Liverpool.
